 KATHERINE "Kathy" (BIONDI) MOCK 

Born: 10-25-1953
Died: 10-1983, peacefully in her sleep, from an enlarged heart due to complications related to child birth, in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri.

In 1970-71, MHS initiated a new program, Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA), which was made up of students involved in industrial cooperative education. Students spent half a day at school and half a day in industry. Kathy was a member of VICA. Kathy married Doug Mock of Joplin, Missouri and they have two sons, Curtis Mock, and Shannon Mock. Kathy's Mom was visiting her and her family during the time of Kathy's passing. Kathy's Father is deceased and last resided in Illinois. Kathy's Mother is Dorothy W. Gustafson, (07/16/1925--12/1995), her husband is Alan Gustafson, and she last resided in Sun Lakes, Chandler, Arizona. Kathy's brothers are; John Biondi (now living in Camp Verde, Arizona), and Jerry Lee Biondi. MHS; 1967 (1949 - 05/11/2007). Kathy last resided in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri 64801.

MICHAEL "Mike" GLENN BREEDEN

Born: 03-02-1953, in San Diego, California
Died: 09-21-1970, from hemophilia complications, in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.

Mike enjoyed martial arts. He was a brown belt of the Karate Club, and in 1969-70 he was the green belt champion of Arizona. During his sophomore and junior years, Mike played the saxophone, and was a member of MHS concert band, orchestra, dance band, and Varsity marching band; he also was a member of both the Leo and Thespian Clubs, and a member of the MHS student government and MHS Senate. Mike was a member of the Latin Club during 1967-68/freshman, 1968-69/sophomore, and 1969-70/junior, serving as president during his sophomore class year, in 1968-69 and presenting the Latin play "Paramus and Thisbe." The Latin club also enjoyed a hayride over the 1969 Thanksgiving holiday, and the traditional Roman banquet. During 1969-70, Mike's junior year, the Thespians produced 2 plays and 2 musicals. The performance of "
Once Upon A Mattress" (a musical satire of the old fairy tale "Princess and the Pea") was a great success. Mike Breeden portrayed the role of "King Sextimus" , delivering hilarious antics as the mute lady chaser. Approximately 6 months prior to his death, Mike had been elected to be the MHS 1970-71 Student Body President. Funeral arrangements were by Grimshaw Mortuary. Interment was on 09/24/70, at Greenwood Memorial Park (now: Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery), 2300 W. Van Buren, Phoenix, Arizona 85009, Section 38, Block 12, Lot 2, Space 10.

  WILLIAM "Bill" TYSON BULLARD

Died: 02-26-2003
Bill was 49 yrs. old. He was born in Houston, Texas. Bill came to Phoenix, AZ. at the age of three. He attended MHS and later worked in the construction industry. Bill loved the desert, camping, fishing, racing, four-wheeling, and music. He was a sound technician for local band RPM in the 70's. He had a good sense of humor, made friends easily, and will be missed all. He was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his children; Brandon, Justin and Brittany; father, Robert L. Bullard, brother Robert W. Bullard, MHS; 1969; sister Carol (Bullard) Heath, MHS; 1973; and grandchildren Brandy and Brandon Jr. Bill was predeceased by his loving mother, Donna, and his beloved dog, Max. Private services are pending. Bill was on MHS 1968 freshman football team as # 43. He resided in Phoenix, Ariz. Published: AZ. Republic 3/2/2003.
 

CLYDE LAVASLEUR CUNNINGHAM

Born: 09-09-1953
Died: 02-24-1998, in San Diego, California.
During 1967-68, Clyde's freshman year, he was on the freshman basketball team and the MHS track team. In 1968-69, Clyde's sophomore year, he was again on both the MHS track team and the MHS-JV basketball team. That year the "Panther Pack" track team beat Carl Hayden with a perfect score 15-50, with MHS taking the top 5 placements; of which Clyde came in 2nd place. Their 2nd perfect score that year was against Flagstaff; and the 3rd perfect score was against North H.S., with MHS again finishing in the top 5 placements, of which Clyde came in 5th place. The "Panther Pack" then took 4th place in the Phoenix Divisional Meet and they took 10th place in the AAA Inter-Divisional Meet. During 1970-71, Clyde's senior year he was a member of the senior class council, and was the MHS student body Vice-President. Clyde's brother is Gerald Cunningham, MHS; 1968.
 

KAREN JOY CURRIER

Born: 03-12-1953
Died: 06-30-1978

Karen participated in Girl's League Association (GAA), and Future Homemakers of America (FHA); during 1967-68, her freshman year. In 1968-69, her sophomore year, she was on the MHS State Championship Girls Golf Team. In 1969-70, Karen's junior year, she was a member of the Junior Girls League, GAA and the Badminton team that won the tournament. In 1970-71, Karen's senior year, she was treasurer of the MHS student body, a member of Senior Girls League, and a member of Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA); the MHS chapter sent over 30 students that year to the State Leadership Conference and won recognition. Karen's brother is Kenny Currier, MHS; 1970, and her sisters are Kay (Currier) Grimmett, MHS; 1972, and Kim (Currier) Freese, MHS; 1974. Her Dad is Clifford "Cliff" Currier (deceased: 03/30/1995), MHS; counselor and head counselor from 1963-64 through 1983-84.
 

SHERRIE LEE DAILEY

Born: 01-24-1953, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Died: 03-31-2006, in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.

Sherrie passed peacefully in her sleep. She lived the last 35 years in Phoenix, Arizona. Sherrie was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Bethany Ranch Home caring for mentally disabled adults for 27 years. She spent the last 6 years as personal attendant and friend to Ann Marantette. Sherrie also volunteered every year at Chapel Rock Camp in Prescott, Arizona. Sherrie always gave from her heart to everyone around her. She loved all holidays, especially Christmas, and would share her joy by giving gifts, chocolate chip cookies and homemade jam to all those she loved. Sherrie would spend months every year planning and crafting a gingerbread house to enter in the Arizona State Fair; she never failed to bring home a first place ribbon. Sherrie devoted her life to caring for her parents and studying her family genealogy. She was never without a camera and the love and energy she put into creating a photo and written family history will be cherished for many generations. Sherrie was the cornerstone of her family and an Angel to all; she will be greatly missed. Surviving are her father, Boyd Lee Dailey of Black Canyon City, Arizona; sister Terrie (Dailey) Fleming and husband Dale Fleming of Manassas, Virginia; brother Jim Boyd Dailey and wife Jennifer of Chandler, Arizona; sister Jerrie Kay (Dailey) Rolston (MHS; 1975) and husband Stephen Rolston of Chandler, Arizona; aunts Sue Ruterman and husband John of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Bonnie O'Dailey of Phoenix, Arizona, and nieces and nephews Andrew Fleming, Brandie and Garrick Dailey, Amanda Henderson and husband Kyle, Jillian Antinora and husband TJ; and three great nieces, Mia and Faith Henderson, and Teresa Antinora. Sherrie also had many close friends who will miss her laughter and giving spirit. The memorial services was Thursday, 04/06/2006 at Valley of the Sun Mortuary in Chandler, Arizona, (480)895-9232. Died: 02-20-2006, at 52 years old, of Alexandria, Indiana, after an unexpected illness.

Matt is a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S Army.
Matthew was an Alexandria, Indiana resident since 2003. He was a warehouse shift supervisor at Dairymaid Shamrock Company in Phoenix, Arizona for 13 years. Matt served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Epworth Methodist Church in Matthews, Indiana. He loved helping people. He was an avid hunter and sportsman. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and listening to all kinds of music. Matt is survived by his wife whom he married 06/06/1987, Sheila Kay (Hoover) Goetz; a son, Steve and wife Carrie Welder of Anderson; seven siblings, Frederick "Fred" (wife Anne) Goetz, MHS; 1968, Randall "Randy" (wife Fawn) Goetz, MHS; 1974, Paul (wife Terri) Goetz, MHS; 1976, Barbara Mary Kathryn (husband William) Goetz-Buttrum, MHS; 1966, and David (wife Jean) Goetz, MHS; 1977, all of Phoenix, Arizona; and Kathleen "Cathy" (husband Charles) Goetz-Phelps, MHS; 1969, of Michigan, and Candice "Candi" Goetz, MHS; 1973; brother-in-law, Eddie Hoover of Duckriver, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Samantha, Dayna, Luke, Jonathon and Justin; a god-daughter, Angel Thompson of Indianapolis, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews all of Arizona (several are also MHS alumni).
Matthew was preceded in death by his parent, Robert and Mary Kaye (Pipper) Goetz; a brother, Joseph "Joe" Goetz, MHS; 1970; his mother-in-law; his father-in-law; and a great grandnephew, William Buttrum. Services were Friday, 02/24/2006, at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, North Chapel, with Ron Dake officiating. Cremation took place. Visitation was on Friday, 02/24/2006 at Funeral Homes, North Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in his memory. Loose Funeral Homes.

Died: 03-2008, of natural causes, in Curry County, Oregon

Barbara Gayle Holt was a traveler of the world; including Egypt, Tahiti, and South America. She had recently been camping in the beautiful back country near Hunter Creek, Curry County, Oregon. Barb attended Starlight Park Elementary School. She graduated from Maryvale High School (MHS) in Phoenix, Arizona. Barb was in the Physics Club at MHS, and in 1970-71, her senior year, she participated in the "Blind for a Day" experiment conducted by Mr. Frank Gilleland each year. She had been raised in the Episcopal Church. Barbara was a 1977 graduate of the University of Arizona (U of A), in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. She had worked as a licensed pharmacist for Fry's Food Stores in Arizona. Barbara enjoyed movies, romance novels travel and gemology. Barb had accomplishment in several personal quests related to earth science and scientific knowledge. She was quiet with a delightful dry sense of humor. Barb loved Nancy Drew and Star Trek. A perfect friend, she is missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include a sister, Bette (Holt) Sharpe, MHS; 1968 (husband, Ed) of Glendale, Arizona. BONNY LEE (KELLEY) CAHILL

Died: 05-20-2004.
Bonny Lee (Kelley) Cahill (51) surprised us when she went to be with God on Thursday, 05-20-2004. Those who love her, currently miss her presence and celebrate her joyous, new life are her husband-Roger D. Cahill, daughter-Mystery Lee Evans, grandchildren-Judea and Jericho, brother-Norman Kelley, Jr., sister-Jenny Lou (Kelley) McCoy, MHS;1969, and many other relatives and friends. The funeral was Friday, 05-28-2004, at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary # 480-502-3378.

Daniel was a rebel, a teddy bear, was fun loving and lived life to the fullest. He was enthusiastic about life, and avid about his Harley. He always assured his family that if he died riding his Harley he would die happy. Dan was killed instantly while on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He had just left from visiting his Mom, and was struck by a lady turning left at 51st Avenue and Indian School Road. Dan's business associates at the City of Glendale, Arizona Water Treatment Department were also his riding buddies; they all stated that Dan was the safest and most defensive rider that they knew. Dan was always laughing. He loved music, dancing and being with and around other MHS alumni. He was always interested in his old classmates and what they were up to now. Dan attended the 1st year 2002 MHS/BA All-Class-Years reunion, and the MHS reunion parties at Pullano's. Dan's sisters are Diane (Klaff) Ingram, MHS; 1972; Darlene Loucks, MHS; 1976; and Denise Loucks, MHS; 1979. His brothers are: William "Bill" Loucks, MHS; 1969; David Loucks, MHS; 1980; and Dale Loucks, MHS; 1975. His sister-in-law is Dale's wife, Pam (Wilson) Loucks, MHS; 1972. Dan has 2 sons; Kevin and Brian Klaff. Dan last resided in Glendale, Maricopa County, Arizona.

Rick Allen Laney, lost his battle with cancer at 11:40 a.m. on 05/29/2005. Survivors include his wife, Sheila Laney; 2 daughters, Misty and Jamie Laney; Father, Allen Laney; sister, Marilie Laney (MHS; 1966); brother, Chris Laney; grandson, Xander; and 3 nieces and 2 nephews. Visitation and services were held Friday 06/03/2005, at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 West Beardsley Road, Phoenix, Arizona, in the Honor II section, lot 104, space D3. Died: 08-12-2000, losing his long battle with colon cancer, which had been misdiagnosed.
Rusty will probably be remembered by his classmates as the most partying senior. He enjoyed people and lived each day to its fullest. Rusty's sisters are: Corinne LaPeirre, MHS; 1977 and Susan "Susie" (LaPeirre) Smith, MHS; 1976. Rusty was preceded in death by his brother-in-law: J.C. "Gus" Smith, MHS; 1973 (deceased: 09/10/1999). Rusty last resided in Peoria, Maricopa County, Arizona USA 85345.

In 1968-69, Rick's sophomore year, he was a member of the Leo club. The Leo club name initials stand for Leadership, Experience, Opportunities; which was the new name for what had been known as the King's club. They were responsible for raising the flag at home football games, putting black and gold streamers on cars, and running the check stand at home dances. They cut down Christmas trees for the school mall campus and the Girls League formal. They also ushered at all drama presentations and served refreshments at the fall, winter and spring sports awards nights. In 1969-70 and 1970-71, Rick's junior and senior years, he participated in the Distributive Education Club of America (DECA). The 1969-70 MHS chapter was voted chapter of the year; and the 1970-71 chapter sent over 30 students to the State Leadership conference and won recognition. Rick's sisters are: Patricia "Pat" Ellen Latshaw, MHS; 1964, Elizabeth "Beth" (Latshaw) Douglas, MHS; 1968, and Kathryn "Kathy/Kitty" (Latshaw) LaPan, MHS; 1970. EARL "Lee" LeROY MILLER, JR.

Died: 01-19-2007, in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona

Earl "Lee" LeRoy Miller, Jr., son of Doris L. Smith, of Glendale, Arizona and Earl L. Miller, Sr., of Sebring, Florida. Lee is survived by his Mother, Father, sister Carolyn (Miller) Lofgren, (MHS; 1966) and husband Scott Lofgren of California and family; brother John (MHS; 1969) and wife Judy Miller and family; sister Jacqueline (Miller) Heer and husband David Heer and family of Arizona; sister Kimberly (Miller) Freidrich and husband Stephen Freidrich of Australia and family; also survived by family members in Indiana and Florida. Lee will be sorely missed by all who knew him as he was the light of all our lives. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and his camping trips with all his friends. A remembrance ceremony for Lee (Earl), was on Wednesday 01/24/2007 at Samaritan Funeral Home, 1505 East McDowell Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85006 for family and friends. Died: 07-30-2007, at 53 years of age, of Glendale, Maricopa County, Arizona

Tony was born to Jim and Joanne Walter. In 1960, Tony's family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he later attended Maryvale High School (MHS). Tony graduated from Arizona State University (ASU) with an undergraduate degree in Biology and later returned to ASU to obtain a Master's degree in Business Administration. Tony is survived by the love of his life, wife Linda Walter, whom he married on 07/09/1994; parents Jim and Joanne Walter; brothers James "Jim" (wife, Heidi) Walter, MHS; 1974 and Mark (wife, Belinda) Walter, MHS; 1977; sisters Luanne (Jake) Walter-Jacobsen, MHS; 1973 and Sue (Peter) Walter-Gryzbowski, MHS; 1978; children Holly Hosac, Rachael (Elvis) Balderrama, Megan (Eric) Ryszkowski, Rebecca Walter, Ashleigh Walter, Liz Sahadi, Joe Sahadi and John Sahadi; as well as several loving nieces and nephews and 8 grandchildren. Tony loved his work and his good friends at Phoenix Children's Hospital, 1919 East Thomas Road, Phoenix, Arizona; where he served as Laboratory Director. Tony was as an inspiration to all who knew him and will be remembered for his strength, humor, determination and strong faith. A memorial service was held on Saturday, 08/04/2007 at Heritage Presbyterian Church, 5830 West Greenbriar Drive, Glendale, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tony's name may be made to Phoenix Rescue Mission, 1801 South 35th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85009.
