PATRICIA "Pat" BAIN

Born: approx. 1958
Died: 1974 or 1975, from a car accident, in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.

Pat is included in the MHS 1975 year book Memoriam, page 244. Her sister is Cindy Bain, MHS;1977. When Pat passed, she was interred in the City of El Mirage Cemetery, Maricopa County, Arizona. However, her family later had her disinterred and moved to Resthaven Park-East Phoenix Cemetery, 4310 East Southern Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85040-4042, where other members of their family are laid to rest. Gravesite location: Section S, Block 13, Lot 9, Space 1.
 

   
CINDY SUE (BARNETT/CASTOR) OROZCO

Born: 10-21-1958, in Woodward, Oklahoma
Died: 01-10-2004, in Mooreland, Woodward County, Oklahoma

Cindy Sue Barnett was born on 10/21/1958 to Jerry and Yvonne (Simms) Barnett in Woodward, Oklahoma. Cindy was reared in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona and attended school there. At the age of 17, she moved to Woodward, Oklahoma with her Mother and sisters. Cindy was married to Claude Castor and became the Mother of 4 children, whom she cared for all of her life. She was then married to Luz Orozco and to this union 1 stillborn child was born, Miracle Dawn Orozco. Cindy then moved to Mooreland, Oklahoma. She worked for Mead and Mary Ferguson. She loved them very much. Cindy was a very spirited person who loved life and the people she met. She loved her dogs, Amarillo, Jack, Sabrina, Russell, and Bingo; they were her children. She is survived by her Mother, Yvonne Welch and husband (Jerrell) of Tatum, New Mexico; one brother, Toby Barnett (MHS; 1973) and wife Donitta of Dallas, Georgia; four sisters, Bambi (Barnett) Plumley (MHS; 1974) and husband Phillip of Douglasville, Georgia; Tracy Barnett of Corpus Christi, Texas; Keri Barnett of Decatur, Georgia; Jeannie Barnett of Decatur, Georgia; her grandmother, Dorothy Iliff of Woodward, Oklahoma; two stepbrothers, Kerry Welch and wife Tammy of Laverne, Oklahoma; Ron Welch and wife Sherry of Tatum, New Mexico; stepsister, Kim Hamilton and husband John of Guam; uncles, Rick Iliff and wife Bev of Hobart, Oklahoma; Terry Iliff of Texas; Pat Barnett and wife Ethie of Woodward, Oklahoma; her aunt, Naomi Baxter of Kankakee, Illinois; two grandchildren, Brendon Willis Comstock and Chesley Comstock; nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends. Cindy was preceded in death by her Father, Jerry Barnett, Uncle Edd Simms, cousins, Tina Simms, Kyle Barnett, and Stephen Simms. MICHAEL "Mike" ANTHONY CANTRELL
Born: 11-20-1957, in Swindon, England.
Died: 08-20-2003, from cancer.
Mike is a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps (1975);
and the U.S. Army (1977), as a fight medic;
and the Mesa Police Department; Police Officer from 1980 to retirement in 1995.
Michael Anthony Cantrell, "God's finger touched him & he slept." In the early morning hours of August 20, 2003, Michael Anthony Cantrell passed away after a brave battle with cancer. It took his life but did not diminish his powerful faith in God or his strong spirit. In this respect Michael beat this deadly disease. Michael is now with his daughter Vanessa who joined our Lord on May 22, 1980 after her parents were blessed with her for a beautiful 2 months. He is also predeceased by his father Robert Lee Cantrell, formerly of Kansas City, KS. We thank God for the 45 years Michael was given to the world & for the honor of knowing & loving him. He certainly made the world a more enjoyable place. Michael's laugh & smile were his trademark. His love of life, love for his family, & faith in God were unprecedented. This world was blessed by Michael's birth in Swindon, England on November 20, 1957 & now it is saddened by his passing. Michael spent his childhood in Bath, England; Kansas City, Kansas, Bitburg, Germany & Litchfield Park, AZ. Michael is survived by his loving wife Debbie & his beautiful daughter, Nicole & her husband, Matthew Salusky. Michael & Debbie were high school sweethearts & were married for 26 years. Michael is also survived by his loving mother Hazel Fysh of Phoenix; two older brothers, Philip of Chicago, Ill., Gary (Eileen) of Mesa & their children Derek & Chelsea; an aunt, Mary Muncy of Overland Park, KS, & 5 aunts & uncles in Bath, England. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1975 then went into the U.S. Army in 1977. While in the Army, he was a flight medic assigned to a Crash Rescue Squadron in Yuma, AZ. When Michael left the Army, his calling to help others brought him to the Mesa Police Department where he became a Police Officer in 1980. Michael retired from the Mesa Police Department in 1995. During this time, he served with honor & pride while putting his life on the line to make our community a safer place to live. Services were held, Monday, 08/25/2003 at Central Christian Church of the East Valley, 933 N. Lindsay Mesa, AZ. Burial in City of Mesa Cemetery. Reception followed at Central Christian Church of the East Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made at any Bank of America branch in Michael A. Cantrell's name. MICHAEL "Mike" BRYAN COLLOM

Born: 07-28-1957, in Yuma, Arizona
Died: 01-20-2007, at 49 years of age, from cancer; of Avondale, Maricopa County, Arizona

Michael Bryan Collom passed away 01/20/2007 after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer. Mike was born to Thelma (nee Johnson) and Homer Collom. He was a loving husband and father who kept his sense of humor even in illness. A longtime diesel body-shop manager, Mike believed in second chances and gave them. His kindness, patience and integrity brought out the best in those around him. Mike was married to his best friend and soul mate for 29 years, and they raised two adoring daughters that will forever strive to be as honorable as their father. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now without pain, and in the comfort of his Lord and Savior and loved ones who passed before him. He is deeply missed. Michael is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughters Lindsey (Pat) and Amber (Shaun); Father Homer Collom; five siblings, David Collom, MHS; 1978, Jim Collom, MHS; 1979, Larry Collom, MHS; 1983, Tina Collom, MHS; 1988, Bryan Collom, MHS; 1997, and Randi Collom, MHS; 2005, and numerous other family and friends. Visitation was Wednesday, 01/24/2007 at Mercer Chapel, 1541 East Thomas Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral was Thursday, 01/25/2007 at Mercer Chapel. Interment followed at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 2300 West Van Buren Street, Phoenix, Arizona. Published in The Arizona Republic on 01/24/2007.

RICHARD JAMES DEEGAN, JR.

Died: 11-18-1999, 42 years of age, at Harrison Hospital, of Belfair, Kitsap County, Washington

Richard is a Veteran of the U.S.Navy

Richard was raised and educated in Illinois, Arizona and Washington, graduating from Maryvale High School in Phoenix, Arizona in 1976. Mr. Deegan served in the Navy. He was a certified technician in ASE and electronics. He had worked as a water treatment operator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for the past six years. Mr. Deegan was a member of American Legion Post 149. Survivors include his father, Richard James Deegan Sr. of Chehalis, Lewis County, Washington (dob: 07/27/1928 - dod: 05/16/2001, published in The Columbian newspaper on 05/19/2001); one son, Jacob Deegan, of Vancouver, Washington; two sisters, JoAnn (Deegan) Proper (MHS; 1973) of Vancouver, Washington, and Wendy Haag of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and three brothers, Randal, Brian and Daniel Deegan, all of Vancouver, Washington. Visitation was Wednesday, 11/24/1999, at Lewis Funeral Chapel, 5303 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, Washington 98312, # 360-377-3836/1-888-860-3836. A funeral service was Friday, 11/26/1999, also at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Inurnment is at Salkum Cemetery (aka: New Hope Cemetery, aka Mt. Moriah, aka Mt. Hope Cemetery. S13 T12N R1E Lewis County Cemetery Dist #2 south of Salkum, Washington. Turn right on Wilcox Road follow past church to cemetery.) and his ashes will be scattered at sea by the Navy. THOMAS "Tom" VINCENT DeROUCHEY

Tom is a U.S.Army Veteran.

Investigations Division of the INS in 1991;
Supervisory Special Agent with the Law Enforcement Center in Vermont;
Assistant District Director for Investigations at the Atlanta District INS Office;
Interim Special Agent-in-Charge of the Phoenix, Arizona, Office of Investigations for U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE); Interim Director of the Immigration Investigations program in Washington, DC., assisting transition of the Investigations program of the former Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS) into the newly established ICE under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Thomas "Tom" Vincent DeRouchey, age 45, died March 16, 2004 near Marana, Arizona. He was born August 13, 1958 in Miller, South Dakota as the 4th child of Jerome & Betty (Peterson) DeRouchey. He grew up in a loving family with 5 brothers & 3 sisters. Tom was a member of the Cheyenne River Lakota Sioux Indian tribe. He learned to cowboy at a young age as his father worked on numerous ranches in South Dakota & Arizona. It was in Phoenix that Tom joined the JROTC at Maryvale High School where upon graduation in 1976 he followed his older brothers & joined the U.S. Army. After basic training & Army Security Agency training Tom was assigned to the border in West Germany at Eschwege. Upon completion of his Army tour overseas with an honorable discharge Tom went to Sheridan, Wyoming where he studied & worked before moving back to the Phoenix area & working at a local dairy. It was in 1988 that Special Agent DeRouchey began his federal law enforcement career with the U.S. Border Patrol in California. He joined the Investigations Division of the INS in 1991, where he subsequently served in a series of management positions of increasing responsibility, from Supervisory Special Agent with the Law Enforcement Center in Vermont to the Assistant District Director for Investigations at the Atlanta District INS Office. When Tom died he was Interim Special Agent-in-Charge of the Phoenix, Arizona, Office of Investigations for U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE). As Interim Special Agent-in-Charge, Tom coordinated the enforcement & investigation operations for ICE in central & northern Arizona, including Yuma. Prior to his appointment in Phoenix, he served as the Interim Director of the Immigration Investigations program in Washington, DC. In this capacity he helped the transition of the Investigations program of the former Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS) into the newly established ICE under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Tom DeRouchey was a highly valued, talented professional who loss to ICE is deeply felt by all his colleagues & the entire ICE family. He was deeply loved by his many nieces & nephews & all his family. Tom demonstrated great moral & financial support to his parents & family with his deep compassion to those in need. He loved his nieces & nephews & they loved him especially around Christmas holidays. He sponsored youth football programs. Tom felt deeply about his work & the problems of illegal immigration to the U.S. Tom appeared on many television programs & gave numerous press conferences in Arizona & elsewhere to highlight the illegal smuggling organizations & their treatment of illegal immigrants as chattel. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry DeRouchey & Betty (Peterson) Horn. Tom is survived by his 5 brothers: Colonel Terry DeRouchey (Leanne), John DeRouchey, Bruce DeRouchey, MHS; 1979 (Missy), Jeffrey Horn, & Jerome DeRouchey Jr. (Chris); 3 sisters: Denise (DeRouchey) Salyers, MHS: 1974, Cindy Loerzel (Walter) & Patricia Shore (Richard), 25 nieces & nephews. Services with a full mass celebrating Tom's life was at St.Thomas Aquinas Church at 13720 W. Thomas Rd, Avondale, AZ, Saturday, 03-20-2004. Graveside services immediately followed at Holy Cross Cemetery, 10045 West Thomas Rd, Avondale, AZ. Menke Funeral Home. A reception followed graveside services at Littleton Elementary School. Contributions suggested to the American Lung Assn. (Camp Not-A-Wheeze) 102 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85003. Prior to MHS, Robin attended Cartwright Elementary (59th Ave./Thomas Rd.) and Frank Borman Junior High (55th Ave./Osborn Rd.) school. Robin's younger brother is Todd Rogers, MHS; 1976. Chet Stidham, MHS; 1976 was good friends with Robin and his brother Todd, from 4th grade at Cartwright Elementary through graduation at MHS.

ARTHUR "Art" G. ROSE

Art was a wonderful husband to Kim (Stone/Rose) Peterson, MHS; 1984. They have a daughter, Nikki. Art was heavily involved in Motorcycle Racing (Dirt Bikes) and was a successful business owner in the last years of his life. He owned and operated ART ROSE PAINTING and did some of the most outstanding paint work on vehicles that have earned him spots in magazines. Art was a survivor of Congenital Aortic Stenosis and endured 3 open heart surgeries during his life before it finally took him away from us. He loved his little girl more then I ever saw him love anything. He is so missed and loved to this day.

     RANDE LeROY SCHERER

Died: 06-15-1974, at 15 years of age, in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona
Services for Rande LeRoy Scherer, 15, were at Maryvale Chapel, 6901 West Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Rande, of 6101 West Hollyhock Drive, Phoenix, Arizona 85031; died of an illness in St. Luke's Hospital. Rande was in the 10th grade, a sophomore, at Maryvale High School (MHS). He was active on the baseball team during his freshman year in 1972-73; and was on the JV-football team in 1973-74, his sophomore year, wearing jersey # 11, they finished the season with a 9-1 record. Rande was also in the American Legion baseball program. Rande is remembered in the MHS 1975 yearbook "In Memoriam," page # 244. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Scherer; sisters, Karolene "Kaye" (Scherer) Klassen, MHS; 1969; Clarice (Scherer) Kokali/Bryan, MHS; 1971; Lori (Scherer) Dee, MHS; 1977; and Lana (Scherer) Blackham, MHS; 1979; a brother, Robert "Rob" Scherer, MHS; 1973; nephews, David Klassen, MHS; 1986 (coached 7th/8th grade boys baseball in Tolleson, Arizona) and Donald "Dondi" Klassen, MHS; 1988; a niece, Angela "Angel" (Klassen) Hollingsworth, MHS; 1992; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Scherer and Mr. and Mrs. John Bradford; and great-nephews, David Klassen, Jr., Rande Klassen (named after Rande Scherer), and Bobby Klassen (all sons of David Klassen). Interment at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 West Beardsley, Phoenix, Arizona 85027; Section Garden of Rest I, Lot 120, Space B1. Published in the Arizona Republic 06/07/1974.

    ELISE MARIE STAILEY

Born: 05-27-1958, Ramey AFB Puerto Rico.
Died: 10-05-1992, in Greenville, South Carolina.
Elise attended MHS during her freshman, sophomore and junior class years. She transferred to West High School during her senior year, and graduated in 1976. Elise was a LPN and worked in Arizona, in numerous nursing homes, Good Samaritan Hospital and Cigna Health Care. She was working on her RN at the time of her death. Elise lived in Arizona, in Paradise Valley on an Arabian Horse Ranch with her life partner and soul mate Patti. Together they boarded and trained horses and surrounded themselves with their beloved dogs and cats. Elise was a talented guitarist, naturalist, a member of Greenpeace and PETA. Her love of music is one of the fondest memories that her surviving sister Michelle (Stailey) Casey has of her. Elise wore out several copies of Carole King's Tapestry (her favorite album) in the summer of 1972! She had moved to South Carolina to explore new life opportunities and continue her education. Elise was a gentle and caring soul, taking in stray animals and always lending a hand to those in need. She had a wicked sense of humor, loved to laugh and was always up for a good party! Elise adored her nephews Andrew, Aaron and Austin; they called her Auntie "E" and miss her very much. They have great memories of their adventures together. Auntie "E" always had fast sports cars. Elise is survived by her sister Michelle (Stailey) Casey (MHS; 1973); her Father and stepmother, Chuck and Linda Stailey; and her brother Eric Stailey. Her sister Celeste passed in 2000, her Mother in 1999. Elise last resided in Greenville, Greenville County, South Carolina. Elise loved the outdoors; her ashes were scattered from a top of a mountain that overlooks a beautiful range near Payson, Arizona. "And the sweet tasting good life is so easily found. VALERIE ANNE (WHITMER) KROB

Died: 04-12-2008, after a lengthy illness, in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Valerie Anne Whitmer Krob was preceded in death by a son Adam and daughter Renea. She leaves behind her husband Glenn Krob, MHS; 1972, daughter Rashell and granddaughter Lucy, nine brothers and sisters; Diane (Whitmer) Seveland, MHS; 1971, Toni Whitmer, MHS; 1973, Pamela Whitmer, MHS; 1974, Brian Whitmer, MHS; 1976, Michael Whitmer, MHS; 1987, and Dirk Whitmer, MHS; 1990, together with extended family in the Whitmer (Valerie's Father is Orville Whitmer) and Krob (brothers-in-law, George Krob, MHS: 1974, and Dennis Krob, MHS; 1977) families. Valerie is also predeceased by her Mother, who's interment is nearby Valerie's gravesite. Viewing was Friday, 04/18/2008, with service on Saturday, 04/19/2008, at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 West Beardsley Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Gravesite location: Garden of Devotion 3, Lot 118, Space D-1. Following interment, guests were invited to fellowship with the family at The Salvation Army, 6010 West Northern Avenue, Glendale, Arizona. This was due to the enforced geographical boundary split, made in 1972 by a Phoenix Union High School District (PUHSD) governing board decision, which started at the beginning of the 1972-73 school year, with the opening of TBHS. Brian's sister is Cheryl Woerner, MHS; 1974. Brian's obituary was published in the Arizona Republic, Section B, page 7, on 07/11/2003.
 

JERRY LEON YOESTING
Born: 08-07-1955, in Camp Lejune, N.C.
Died: 04-10-2002, at the age of 46.
He was a member of The Greater Phoenix Bowling Association. He is survived by his parents, Teddy & Barbara Yoesting, sister, Barbara Darlene Pritchett, & brother, Teddy J. Yoesting, Jr. Jerry resided in Phoenix, Arizona.
 
 

NICHOLAS "Nick" G. ZENDER

Born: 12-22-1957
Died: 06-25-2005, at 47 years of age, of Akron, Summit County, Ohio.

"World's Greatest Dad" Nicholas Zender passed away Saturday, 06/25/2005. He was preceded in death by his Father, Nicholas Zender. He is survived by Tammy Zender and children, Nikki and Hedy Zender; nieces and nephew, Nicole, Brandy, and Mathew; his Mother Hedy Anderson; brothers, Robert Zender and James Zender; many other relatives and close friends. Nick attended his freshman and sophomore class years at MHS. Visitation was Wednesday, 06/29/2005, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, Ohio 44305, # 330-784-3334. A memorial mass was held on Thursday, 06/30/2005, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown Street, Akron, Ohio 44301-2757, # 330-724-1253. Nick last resided in Akron, Summit County, Ohio 44306. Published in the Akron Beacon Journal, Akron, Ohio, on Tuesday, 06/28/2005 and Wednesday, 06/29/2005.
